Why we built Coplanar
We believe great software is still built by people, not AI tools.
AI helps. Product Managers work faster. Engineers work faster. But teams? They're still slow.
That's because AI doesn't fix the process between Product and Engineering. The handoff is still broken, with most teams running outdated processes.
Product Managers exist to understand customers.
To listen. To synthesize pain into intent. To decide what should exist in the world, and why.
Engineers exist to understand systems.
To know what's possible, weigh tradeoffs, and decide what will actually work.
Neither should be replaced by AI. But the space between them? That needs to change.
Both are slowed down today by outdated processes.
Product Managers know what should improve, but not yet how. To move forward, they wait:
- for meetings
- for availability
- for engineering time
Engineers lose time to:
- explaining what's possible
- sizing high-level plans
- creating more detailed plans
Coplanar compresses the work, not replaces the people.
Coplanar gives Product Managers a way to think immediately:
- to brainstorm
- to ask technical "what ifs"
- to refine ideas before a meeting ever happens
Like talking to a senior engineer on their team.
Coplanar gives Engineers a starting point they can trust.
Plans grounded in real constraints, aware of existing code, explicit about tradeoffs.
Engineers still refine. Engineers still approve. Engineers are still responsible for what ships.
Approved plans don't stop at documentation.
Coplanar connects planning directly to execution:
- approved plans can be implemented with AI coding tools
- engineers stay in control
- quality and responsibility remain where they belong
This is not automation for its own sake. It's respect for time.
- Less waiting
- Less re-explaining
- Less translation work no one was hired to do
Product Managers spend more time with customers. Engineers spend more time building reliable systems. AI does the work in between.
Not AI replacing Product Managers.
Not AI replacing Engineers.
AI helping both move faster, together.
